The orthopedist gave her a cortisone shot and told her it’s probably a frayed tendon. Such injuries don’t need a specific trigger, he said; they come on with age and use. Mostly use. If she were a couch potato, this might not have happened until she was much older, if at all. As a gym rat, however – and now also a maniacal stair-climber – she has put a lot of mileage on that thing and apparently never oiled it.
So now she has to rest it. And that’s a problem. ‘Cause we’ve got a mountain to climb.
This seems like an absolute no-brainer to us, which suggests that no brains are currently being overworked at Cigna. To save 500 bucks on an MRI they’re risking exacerbating the injury and incurring even greater costs down the road – unless, of course, they intend to deny those, too.
In the meantime, Monica suffers. /rant
